If I Could: Happy Mother's Day

Sunday, May 14, 2017

Every year (well, maybe not every year) grown and flown children ask their mothers the same question. After thinking about it, and thinking about how much we truly miss getting to have long talks with our deceased mothers, a number of us decided to send them a real answer:

What do we want for Mother's Day?  We want you. We want you to keep coming around, we want you to bring your children around, we want you to ask us questions about our lives, ask our advice, tell us your problems, ask for our opinion, ask for our help. We want you to come over and rant about your problems, rant about life, whatever.

Tell us about your job, your worries, your children.  We want you to continue sharing your life with us. Come over and laugh with us, or laugh at us, we don't care.

Hearing you laugh is music to our ears.

We spent a large part of our lives raising you the best way we knew how. Now, give us time to admire our work. Bring your children, bring your laundry, raid our refrigerators, help yourself, we really don't mind. In fact, we wouldn't want it any other way.

We want you to spend your money making a great life for you and your family, we have the things we need. We want to see you happy and healthy. When you ask us what we want for Mother's Day, we say "nothing" because your presence in this world is our gift.

The beautiful tune above If I Could sung by Barbra Streisand, speaks to the way mothers feel about their children.
