The Health and Opportunity Benefits of Embracing Aging

Friday, May 24, 2019

Stop worrying about missed opportunities and start looking for new onesat every age.     ~I.M. Pei

Biosyntrx has always supported passionate age management, rather than the concept of antiaging. We went one step further with an audacious attitude. We became major supporters of the Pro-Aging Movement.

We do not support thought that aging is something to be dreaded, defied or denied. We staked a claim on our age and we are owning every moment with gratitude. Becoming an older person is proper cause for celebration and parties.

A joyful spirit most always remains young.

Active pre- and post-baby boomers are enjoying life, working hard and becoming even more passionate about staying healthy, which makes us an economic powerhouse best not to be ignored or offended. We intend to continue to be difference makers with impact by encouraging women and men not to dread aging but to audaciously embrace the process.

Media-driven fear of aging and negative messaging about the aging process has been scientifically linked to psychological, behavioral and biological disease processes that our healthcare system can no longer afford. Data suggest that people with positive attitudes about aging live seven and a half healthy years longer than those who deny or defy aging and have a negative attitude about the process.

As would also be expected to follow, researchers now report that negative media-created ageism has become more pervasive in our society than negative stereotypes based on gender, race, or sexual orientation, which makes sense because our large numbers attract those who profit hugely from promoting fears and denial of the aging process.

The good news: the tide is beginning to turn everywhere. Anti-aging and age-defying are terms no longer trusted by many for good reason. Expensive products and procedures rarely produce results that begin to equal the almost everlasting vitality and joie de vivre achieved by lifestyles centered on continued accomplishment, creativity, passion, commitment to cause, exercise, and clean nutrient-dense diets and caring relationships with friends, family and colleagues.

Crow’s feet and laugh lines speak honestly to who we are, and they are not always something everyone wants to remove and replace with the wrinkle-free faces of our first-rodeo youth. Faces that rarely match our hands and necks can too often lack that women-of-a-certain-age glowing patina that’s acquired through ongoing confidence in our ever changing sense of place.

The process of age acceptance is ongoing and attitudes don't transform overnight. Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time"  ~Ruth Bader Ginsburg

According to an article in Allure in 2018, "Age acceptance is about reclaiming our own agency versus feeling forced to take actions because we've been made to feel 'less than' by society. Shifting our focus to wellness is now proving to realign our goals for a longer health span, which allows us to do what we like to do...longer."

Our support of the Buck Institute on Aging (campus buildings designed by I.M. Pei) and the Pro-Aging movement is essential to creating a society where older people thrive since one out of every three people is now over age 50 and by 2030 one out of three will be over age 65.  And, because research proves that adults over age 65 provide a valuable contribution to society that is qualitatively different than that offered by any other age group.
